What will the world look like for children born today? This engaging 90-minute lesson for upper-intermediate (B2) students is inspired by the NBC News video “Meet Generation Beta, the newest generation born in January 2025.” It explores Generation Beta – the first generation to grow up in a world where AI is integrated into everything. Students will discover the defining characteristics of Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, Gen Z, Gen Alpha, and the newest generation: Gen Beta.
Students will develop essential skills including:
- Listening for sequence and detailed information
- Discussing personal opinions about generational stereotypes
- Expressing predictions about future technologies and climate change
- Acquiring topic-specific vocabulary such as resilient, formative, perpetuate, come of age, immersive, inevitable, latchkey children, stem from, fracture, empathize, move away from labels, and golden years
Students love talking about Apple. They know the products, they recognize the brand, and they have opinions. This lesson hooks them with a familiar topic and pushes them to think like business analysts. By the end, they won’t just understand the news – they’ll be using the same language as the experts.
